A few practical notes to help you plan
St Barths sits about 1,200 miles southeast of Miami in the northern Caribbean. There are no direct international flights, so getting there involves a connection — but the connection is part of the charm. Here's what we'd suggest.
Fly into San Juan on any major US carrier — American, JetBlue, United, and Delta all run frequent nonstops from most US cities. From SJU, connect to St Barths on Tradewind Aviation, a fifty-five minute flight on a Pilatus PC-12 turboprop. Tradewind has interline agreements with the major US carriers, so your bags check through and your itinerary lives on a single ticket.
San Juan is US territory, so there's no foreign customs going down. Tradewind has a private lounge at SJU with refreshments and Wi-Fi, and the team meets you off your inbound flight. Allow at least ninety minutes between flights.
Air France, KLM, and other European carriers fly directly into Princess Juliana Airport in St Martin. From SXM, take a ten-minute hop to St Barths on St Barth Commuter or Winair.
Allow at least two hours of layover at SXM — you'll need to clear customs, collect bags, and re-check in for the second flight at a separate terminal. (Note: Tradewind does not operate the SXM–SBH route.) Tradewind on this route is the most comfortable; St Barth Commuter and Winair are more economical.
Three operators — Great Bay Express, Voyager, and St Barth Ferry — run high-speed catamarans from St Martin to Gustavia harbour. Forty-five minutes to an hour, depending on the route.
A pleasant alternative if you have the time and prefer the sea to the sky. One important note: the crossing can be choppy, especially in the afternoon. If you're prone to seasickness, take medication beforehand and book a morning departure when the water is calmer.
Most hotels arrange airport transfers — send your flight details when you book and they'll handle the rest. The drive to anywhere on the island is fifteen to twenty-five minutes.
For independence, renting a car is highly recommended. The island has neither Uber nor reliable public transit, taxis are scarce, and a car gives you the run of the place. Hertz, Avis, Budget, Sixt, Top Loc, and Maurice all have desks at SBH airport.
Choose small. The roads are narrow, steep, and winding — the average American SUV looks out of place. The Suzuki Jimny (a compact 4×4) and Mini Cooper are the popular picks, and both handle the terrain beautifully.
A note on Mokes. The open-sided Mini Moke is the most photographed car on the island and undeniably charming, but they lack air conditioning, have no enclosed luggage space, and offer little protection from sudden tropical rain. Picturesque, not always practical.
We'd love to have everyone at Le Toiny, but the hotel only has twenty-two suites. December is high season on St Barths, so we recommend booking early. Cost ratings are per-night, December high-season rates.
A block of suites is held under "Lisa & Galen Wedding." Mention it when you book directly with the hotel. The block releases on [date to be confirmed], so book early if you'd like to be on property.
Twenty minutes north on Grand Cul-de-Sac. A Rosewood property with a beach club, lagoon-side rooms, and an excellent spa.
Perched on the rocky promontory of Saint Jean Bay. The island's most storied address — Belmond-owned, design-forward, the kind of place that ends up on the cover of Vogue. Twenty minutes from Le Toiny.
On the cliffs at Pointe Milou with sweeping ocean views, an enormous infinity pool, and the well-regarded Taïno spa. Quieter and more intimate than the resort properties. Twenty-five minutes from Le Toiny.
Le Toiny operates four- and five-bedroom private villas on property — full Le Toiny service and amenities at a friendlier per-guest cost when split among friends. A wonderful option for travelers who'd enjoy the conviviality of staying together. Indicate interest in the RSVP below and we'll help organize a group of eight to ten.
The island has a range of private homes and apartments — anywhere from modest studios to large beachfront villas. Generally the most budget-friendly approach, though prices climb with size and location. Book very early for December.
A formal invitation with the full RSVP will follow in the summer
This is a destination wedding, so we're sending save-the-dates early to give everyone time to plan. We'd love to know whether you're hoping to join us — and we have one optional question about accommodations to help us coordinate.
We've received your reply.
The formal invitation will follow in the summer.

Plan to arrive on Friday 11 December for the welcome dinner, and to depart on Sunday 13 December after brunch — or extend your stay. December is the start of high season on St Barths, so flights and accommodations book up early.
Because St Barths is a destination wedding during high season. Flights, ferries, and hotels all need to be booked well in advance. We want everyone to have plenty of runway to plan and find the best options.
Yes — St Barths is a French overseas collectivity, so a valid passport is required for all travelers. US, UK, Canadian, and EU citizens do not need a visa for short stays. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months past your return date.
Vibrant colors for her, a colored suit for him. Lisa and Galen will be wearing white and ivory, so please leave those tones to us for the night.
Beach formal. Long dresses and light suiting. Flat or block heels are strongly suggested over stilettos — the venue is open-air with sand and stone underfoot.
More detail will follow with the formal invitation.
